Alliance for Aging Research
The Alliance for Aging Research is the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the narrative to achieve healthy aging and equitable access to care. The Alliance strives for a culture that embraces healthy aging as a greater good and values science and investments to advance dignity, independence, and equity.
For more than 35 years, the Alliance has guided efforts to substantially increase funding and focus for aging at the National Institutes of Health and Food and Drug Administration; built influential coalitions to guide groundbreaking regulatory improvements for age-related diseases; and created award-winning, high-impact educational materials to improve the health and well-being of older adults and their family caregivers.
Our Mission
Changing the narrative to achieve healthy aging and equitable access to care.
Our Vision
A culture that embraces healthy aging as a greater good and values science and investments to advance dignity, independence, and equity.
COLLABORATION
We capture the full potential of our vision by working together with partner organizations, policymakers, and educators.
INTEGRITY
We uphold high moral and ethical standards in everything we do as the Alliance and in our partnerships.
DIGNITY
We believe every person deserves to be respected and appreciated for their unique humanity and inherent value, regardless of age.
EMPOWERMENT
We give older patients and caregivers evidence-based information to help them make informed, independent choices that lend to self-advocacy and improved health outcomes.
EQUITY/JUSTICE
We create educational materials and lead advocacy efforts in order to provide equal opportunities and fair treatment for every person, at any age.
The Alliance for Aging Research was founded in 1986 by Daniel Perry to advance the science of aging and health in order to help people live longer, healthier lives. The success of this nonprofit group over the past three and a half decades proves it is possible for a committed few, with passion and vision, to make a difference so that we all might enjoy longer, healthier lives.
JUST A FEW OF OUR INITIATIVES:
Heart Valve Disease Awareness Day
The Heart Valve Disease Awareness Day campaign was started to increase recognition of the specific heart valve disease risks and symptoms, improve detection and treatment, and ultimately save lives. Heart Valve Disease Awareness Day takes place every February 22 during American Heart Month.
Celebrating a Year Without a Stroke
This campaign shares the real stories of people who have experienced and seen first-hand how serious strokes can be. These advocates all share the mission of educating patients and their loved ones about stroke risk and prevention, so that they can Celebrate a Year Without a Stroke.
Accelerate Cures/Treatments for All Dementia
Accelerate Cures/Treatments for All Dementias (ACT-AD) is a coalition of more than 50 national non-profit health professional, patient, business, health provider and consumer organizations seeking to accelerate development of potential cures and treatments for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and all dementias.
Pay It Forward: Volunteering for a Clinical Trial
Getting medical discoveries from the research lab to patients depends on clinical trials and the people who volunteer to participate in them. Volunteering in a trial may help society at large by bringing new treatments one step closer to patients, and could help a loved one if you have a genetic disease or condition.
Safe Medicine Use, Storage, and Disposal
Tens of millions of Americans reach for over-the-counter (OTC) medications for relief of minor aches and pains. But just because they’re OTC doesn’t mean they’re harmless. And with more than 1,000 acetaminophen and NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) containing medications, choosing the right medication can seem overwhelming.
Malnutrition in Older Adults
Malnutrition is a hidden epidemic in the United States and is undertreated and underrecognized. Malnutrition occurs when the body doesn’t get the right balance of nutrients and calories that it needs to stay healthy.
Alzheimer’s Disease Policy Task Force
The Alzheimer’s Disease Policy Task Force is an ad hoc coalition of patient, family caregiver, and professional organizations, working collectively to organize and educate the Alzheimer’s disease community and decisionmakers on the Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) Accelerated Approval pathway, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) coverage determination processes for amyloid-targeted monoclonal antibody therapies for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
