Denver Botanic Gardens
Denver Botanic Gardens strives to entertain and delight while spreading the collective wisdom of the Gardens through outreach, collaboration and education. Our conservation programs play a major role in saving species and protecting natural habitats for future generations.
Our Mission
The mission of Denver Botanic Gardens is to connect people with plants, especially plants from the Rocky Mountain region and similar regions around the world, providing delight and enlightenment to everyone.
In support of the Gardens’ institutional mission of connecting people with plants, the purpose of Chatfield Farms is to inspire the public to be good stewards of the environment by connecting people to our past, present and future relationships with plants of the Rocky Mountain region.
YORK STREET GARDENS

Regional Public Gardens
Thousands of species of glorious wildflowers draw numerous visitors to the Rocky Mountains every year. Public gardens in our region offer another, curated layer of horticultural display that incorporates conservation and research efforts that inform best practices in similar climates globally.
Public gardens are conveniently situated throughout the region, helping to foster an appreciation of our native landscape. From alpine to plains ecosystems, Colorado’s regional gardens comprise a varied plant palette showcasing the best of the world’s vast steppe climate flora. Take advantage of this great opportunity to explore regional gardens.
Mount Goliath
Arapaho National Forest
Mount Blue Sky Road
Evergreen, CO 80439
Mount Goliath is a peak high on the shoulders of Mount Blue Sky located outside of Idaho Springs within the Arapaho National Forest. Here in this fragile alpine environment Denver Botanic Gardens oversees the highest cultivated garden in the U.S., managed in conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service. When the road is open, visitors can enjoy the garden, the Dos Chappell Nature Center and hike the M. Walter Pesman Trail. Amid grand mountain vistas, the 1.5 mile (one way) Pesman Trail winds through subalpine and alpine areas of bristlecone pines and wildflowers.
Our Impact
The key for the Gardens is to take our interactions and understandings of plants and use them to break open a world of wonder for the countless people we reach.
Denver Botanic Gardens’ mission of connecting people with plants takes many forms. Sometimes the connection is found through something universal like food. Sometimes it’s found through something particular like art. Other times it’s a connection through the elements that sustain plants – water and soil.
Through establishing and expanding connections between varied audiences and plants – be it at our York Street or Chatfield Farms locations or elsewhere – the Gardens seeks to educate, entertain and even transform the way people think about and engage with the environment.
