Motorcycle Industry Council
Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(6) national trade association supporting motorcyclists in the U.S. by representing manufacturers, distributors, dealers and retailers of motorcycles, scooters, ATVs, ROVs, motorcycle/ATV/ROV parts, accessories and related goods and services, and members of allied trades such as insurance, finance and others with a commercial interest in the industry. The MIC name originated in 1970, but the association has existed under other names since 1914.
The MIC and its member companies seek to keep motorcycling fun, accessible and safe for motorcyclists, and to promote motorcycling’s positive image of serious fun and a responsible, environmentally friendly mode of transportation. If your organization serves the U.S. motorcycle industry, the MIC is for you.
The MIC has a long history of working hard to expand the market. It’s been done through a strong communications effort that aims to attract new customers by placing motorcycles and motorcycling in front of whole new audiences, and large ones at that.
The Motorcycle Industry Council’s mission is to preserve, protect and promote motorcycling in the U.S. We support motorcyclists by representing the interests of manufacturers, distributors, dealers and retailers of motorcycles, scooters, motorcycle/ATV/ROV parts, accessories and related goods and services, and members of allied trades such as consultants, agencies, financiers and others with a commercial interest in the industry.
Through efforts in government relations, communications and media relations, industry-related research, aftermarket programs, and activities surrounding technical and regulatory issues, the MIC has been the voice of the motorcycle industry since 1914.
The motorcycling lifestyle has inspired excitement and devotion among enthusiasts, racers, weekend warriors and daily commuters for decades the world over. At MIC, it’s our mission to preserve, protect and promote motorcycling. And it’s working. There are more riders today than ever before, riding more types of bikes, and logging more than 25 billion miles annually on America’s roadways.

ADVOCACY
The major goals of the Government Relations program are effective communication and dissemination of information. The Government Relations Office functions as both a voice on behalf of the powersports industry at the state and federal government levels, and as a clearinghouse for information on legislation and regulation affecting the industry.
In its capacity as a lobbying arm, the Government Relations Office constantly monitors all relevant state and federal legislation. Well over 100,000 bills are introduced each year in the 50 state legislatures and many thousands more in the U.S. Congress, with regulatory agencies accounting for thousands of additional initiatives. Many of these affect the powersports industry, the products it produces, and the people it serves. Staff reviews these numerous proposals and works with members, legislators and regulators to advocate enactment of beneficial legislation and to oppose damaging proposals.
The second vital function of the Government Relations Office is that of providing comprehensive information on existing laws and regulations and other powersports-related initiatives to legislative, regulatory and law enforcement bodies, member companies and other related organizations. The GRO provides a reliable source of information on all government relations issues.
The Government Relations Office serves as a voice on both the national and state level, promoting the interests of the entire powersports industry to all government officials.
RESEARCH
MIC members have access to monthly, annual, periodical and custom reports that provide the latest market intelligence and industry knowledge. To access these reports, members can go to MIC Resources to view or download. Some reports are made available to non-members to purchase through the MIC Store online.
MIC EVENTS
Recognizing that exhibitors need a dedicated platform to showcase their products to dealers and retailers at the right time of the year, North America’s largest powersports tradeshow now aligns with the order writing season when dealers and retailers are looking to place orders for the upcoming year.
Taking place over three days instead of four, the new Trade-only focus offers exhibitors the best possible opportunity to make an impact, access dealers, write orders, as well as learn about and discuss the important issues facing our industry.
Quality over quantity is necessary in the new trade show landscape. Offering an immersive experience that doesn’t exist in a digital world, AIMExpo provides a platform to connect the right brands with the most engaged dealers, with key distributors, with media outlets, and with influencers –in one place, at the right time.
Powersports generates over $39.9 billion US dollars in consumer spending each year, and by working together, our community can lead a movement that pushes the boundaries of industry engagement and enhances the powersports experience for everyone.
