National Consumer Law Center
At the National Consumer Law Center (NCLC), we fight every day to level the economic playing field for consumers, focusing on the needs of the most vulnerable people, families, and communities.
NCLC uses its unmatched expertise in consumer law to protect consumers from exploitation and expand access to fair credit by advocating for laws, rules, and regulations that benefit real people: those with low incomes, older people, students, people of color, and others who have been abused, deceived, discriminated against, or left behind in our economy.
We fight against an army of Goliaths—big banks, financial services companies, predatory lenders, and scam artists of all varieties, never shying away from tough fights with long odds.
NCLC uses the tools of advocacy, education, and litigation to fight for economic justice for low-income and other vulnerable people who have been abused, deceived, discriminated against, or left behind in our economy.
NCLC is at the center of a national network of legal aid lawyers, private attorneys, elder advocates, housing counselors, pro-consumer policymakers and enforcement officials, and other allies who use NCLC’s expertise to fight for consumers on the front lines, day in and day out. We’ve helped build this community of advocates—and together, we have an incredible track record of success.
For over 50 years, NCLC has played a leading role in crafting the laws and regulations that protect consumers from abusive and deceptive transactions. Our work has changed the way consumers are treated in the marketplace and has led to some of the most important consumer protection laws and regulations in the country.
NCLC makes a real difference in the lives of real people. With the continued support of those who care about our nation’s future and the well-being of its people, we will continue to lead the fight for economic fairness, security, and justice for all.
Since 1969, the nonprofit National Consumer Law Center® (NCLC®) has used its expertise in consumer law and energy policy to work for consumer justice and economic security for low-income and other disadvantaged people, including older adults, in the U.S.
NCLC’s expertise includes policy analysis and advocacy; consumer law and energy publications; litigation; expert witness services, and training and advice for advocates. NCLC works with nonprofit and legal services organizations, private attorneys, policymakers, and federal and state government and courts across the nation to stop exploitative practices, help financially stressed families build and retain wealth, and advance economic fairness.
NCLC’s work benefits real people: low-income people, older adults, students, people of color, and others who have been abused, deceived, discriminated against, or left behind in our economy. Our impact is magnified greatly through the efforts of legal aid and private attorneys and grassroots allies across the country.
Annual Conferences
The Consumer Law Educational Events Series includes the nation’s preeminent in-person conferences and trainings for consumer attorneys, produced by National Consumer Law Center (NCLC) and the National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA). The series provides comprehensive training regarding critical issues in consumer law, including the latest developments and trends; strategies and tactics for effectively representing your clients; and opportunities to network with and learn from the leaders in the field.

We are a consumer advocacy group providing research assistance to consumer attorneys, writing manuals on law, and working with lawmakers to adopt laws and regulations that benefit and protect consumers. Unfortunately, our resources do not permit us to handle individual consumer complaints directly.
