For a World Immune to Cancer
Our Mission: Save more lives by fueling the discovery and development of powerful immunotherapies for all cancers.
Stopping All Cancers, For Good
Scientific research is the key to finding the answer to all forms of cancer. CRI’s focus on the immune system has resulted in millions of lives saved worldwide, and with your help, we promise to save the lives of millions more.
Taking Action To Save More Lives
Working with our global alliance of researchers, supporters, patients, and advocates, CRI is able to identify and fund the brightest and most promising cancer immunotherapy scientists worldwide—all while promoting awareness, sharing up-to-date immunotherapy information, and inspiring lifelong advocacy for the cause.
IMMUNOTHERAPY AT A GLANCE
The Solution to Cancer:
Personalized, Powerful, Predictable
Research indicates that immunotherapy may offer a long-term solution to ending certain forms of cancer. Immunotherapy capitalizes on the innate power of the immune system to eliminate cancer, giving patients hope for a cure. By taking advantage of our immune system’s ability to remember cancer cells, there is the potential to offer patients permanent protection against cancer recurrence.
Impacting Every Day While Transforming Tomorrow
Immunotherapy is here and is leading to highly effective cancer treatments for patients around the world. To that end, CRI offers valuable tools, support, and insights to hasten the advancement of immunotherapy research, propelling it forward to reach its greatest potential.
Our immune system is the greatest weapon we have in the fight against cancer. The immune system can adapt continuously and dynamically to keep pace with cancer’s rate of mutation and growth.
Specifically, it targets constantly mutating cancer cells while sparing healthy cells. Immunotherapy is a “living drug” that remains active thanks to the immune system’s “memory,” enabling it to keep up and even outpace cancer.
Immunotherapy research is vital to understanding key resistance levers in patient responses and overcoming treatment failures. With breakthroughs happening at a rapid pace, it is our hope and collective goal to see that immunotherapy becomes readily available to the patients that need it.
Ushering in the next wave
Our unique approach is ushering in the next wave of curative immunotherapies. We provide the leading scientific minds from around the world with the funding needed to make these lifesaving therapies an effective option for patients.
A Community of Experts
CRI’s community of immuno-oncology experts advise CRI on setting its scientific priorities, evaluating and selecting research funding recipients, and contributing to the design and implementation of CRI’s innovative laboratory and clinical research initiatives.
As we advance the next wave of immunotherapy research, it is essential that CRI and its network of partners continue to scout for highly promising scientists and projects, all while carrying out lifesaving immunotherapy research that is advancing the science underpinning smarter, more effective cancer treatments.
Scientific Advisory Council
Composed of leaders in immunology and immuno-oncology, including four Nobel laureates, the Scientific Advisory Council guides the Cancer Research Institute’s research programs, deciding which promising scientific and medical research proposals will receive CRI funding and support.
CRI-Funded Scientists
More than 3,500 scientists have received funding from CRI, many of whom have advanced in their careers to top positions in academic research and industry. As part of the CRI Network, they bring a rich diversity of perspectives and insights that propel CRI’s research programs forward as invited committee members, consultants, speakers at CRI events, and friends.
Driven by Data
CRI clinical trials are driven by the latest scientific data as well as the greatest opportunities for saving more lives, including finding more effective ways to help people with especially hard-to-treat, “orphan,” or rare and ultra-rare cancers.
CRI trials are built upon solid scientific rationale and are designed not only to help patients now but also to yield new insights that will benefit more patients with other cancers now and in the future.
Sharing Data to Stimulate New Ideas
Discoveries from CRI’s clinical work are shared across the entire international community of cancer immunologists. This sharing of data stimulates new ideas that lead to more progress. CRI convenes these leaders in immuno-oncology and facilitates dialogue to further the sharing of knowledge, fostering collaborations that otherwise would not happen.
The CRI Trials program includes the CRI Anna-Maria Kellen Clinical Accelerator – a first-of-its-kind venture philanthropy-backed clinical discovery strategy that supports multi-centered clinical trials testing novel immunotherapy combinations in hard-to-treat cancers – and our Clinical Innovator, which supports and coordinates investigator-initiated, single-site trials that leverage CRI’s global expert network to design and conduct innovative immunotherapy clinical trials.
Building a Data Resource for Scientists
CRI’s informatics platform is a living and breathing data resource for scientists, incorporating user feedback to improve functionality and accessibility. We are committed to training the next generation of immunologists in how to use data science to fuel breakthrough discoveries. We also teach data scientists how to read immunological data.
CRI is developing and implementing our bioinformatics tools and funding programs. These platforms and funding programs harness the power of massive datasets and accelerate computational analysis that paves the way for groundbreaking insights in immunotherapy.
Ways To Give

Your contributions fuel therapies and scientific breakthroughs that provide fresh hope to cancer patients, enhancing the effectiveness of treatments while minimizing invasiveness.
Our immune system is the greatest weapon we have in the fight against cancer. Immunotherapy is a powerful treatment and taps into the remarkable precision, adaptability, and memory of the immune system to effectively combat cancer cells. This approach ensures the targeting of cancer cells while sparing healthy ones, adapts to evolving tumors, and retains the ability to recognize and eliminate cancer even in case of recurrence. That’s why supporting cancer immunotherapy research is vital to advancing these life-saving therapies.
