Children's Museum of Atlanta
Children’s Museum of Atlanta, a nonprofit 501(c)(3), is the only educational venue of its kind in Atlanta. Through community outreach initiatives, educational programs, and exhibits designed for children ages 0–8, the Museum strives to spark every child’s imagination, sense of discovery and learning through the power of play.
OUR MISSION
To change the world by sparking every child’s imagination, sense of discovery and learning through the power of play.
FOCUS AREAS
The Museum provides highly engaging, immersive, informal learning focused on the whole child. Through our exhibits and programs, we emphasize the following areas.
ARTS
Through music, visual arts, and performing arts children learn motor skills, increase their vocabulary, embrace and express their creativity, and are exposed to different world cultures and points of view.
CULTURE & GEOGRAPHY
Experiencing a wide variety of world cultures through food, art, music, dance, stories, and celebrations opens young minds up to the rich diversity our world has to offer.
ENGINEERING
Children are fascinated with taking things apart and rebuilding them again, so the Museum provides large scale opportunities for them to create whatever they can imagine.
HEALTH & WELLNESS
Museum exhibits and programs teach children how to cook healthy meals, make positive lifestyle choices, and explore locally grown fruits and vegetables.
LITERACY
Museum exhibits and programs provide age-appropriate tools to bring reading and other literary skills to life in creative and immersive ways.
MATHEMATICS
Informal math instruction, counting, and building are found throughout the Museum, providing children of all ages with a strong foundation that sets them up for success later in life.
SCIENCE
Science is everywhere in the Museum, with interactive displays and demonstrations on everything from plant growth to the solar system.
SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL
Healthy social-emotional development is the groundwork needed to form trusting relationships with others, play, face challenges, communicate clearly and manage all of their emotions.
TECHNOLOGY
Interactive kiosks throughout the Museum let children experience life on a farm, increase their early learning vocabulary, and demonstrate geographical differences on Earth, and beyond.
HISTORY
Children’s Museum of Atlanta is a nonprofit organization founded in 1988. In 2003, we opened a permanent Children’s Museum in Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park. Since opening, Children’s Museum of Atlanta has become the city’s premier source of hands-on and exploratory learning for young children, a recognized authority on children’s informal learning, a committed advocate on behalf of children, and a signature element in Atlanta’s cultural landscape. CMA receives 120,000+ guests annually and has welcomed over 3.4 million visitors to date.
PLAY BUILDS THE FUTURE
Through our mission to spark every child’s imagination, sense of discovery, and learning through the power of play, we cultivate curiosity today to help them thrive tomorrow.
Play is linked to improved cognitive and emotional development, increased creativity, and reduced stress and anxiety. Together, we can build on the progress we’ve made and make an even bigger impact. Help us build a brighter, creative, more inclusive future by making a gift today.
AMPLIFY OUR IMPACT
Your tax-deductible gift not only makes play possible, but it also opens a world of possibilities to children throughout our community.
Kindergarten readiness programs prepare kids to love school.
Preschool enrollment is down, primarily due to school closings and staffing shortages. Finding affordable programs with open space for enrollment can be a challenge.
CMA has brought back Building Blocks, our kinder readiness program for toddlers and preschoolers. This weekday program uses art, engineering, and music to build gross motor skills, social emotional behavior and other traits kids need to thrive in school.
