National Association for Home Care
The National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) is a nonprofit organization that represents the nation’s home care and hospice organizations.
NAHC is the largest and most respected professional association representing the interests of chronically ill, disabled, and dying Americans of all ages and the caregivers who provide them with in-home health and hospice services.
NAHC also advocates for the more than two million nurses, therapists, aides, and other caregivers employed by such organizations to provide in-home services to some 12 million Americans each year who are infirm, chronically ill, and disabled.
Along with its advocacy, NAHC provides information to help its members maintain the highest quality of care and is committed to excellence in every respect.

Private Duty Home Care Certification
Private Duty Home Care Certification requires each agency location to conduct a comprehensive examination relating to nineteen (19) separate but interrelated aspects of business and operations. Agency locations are required to submit documentation and an attestation statement showing adherence to all Certification program standards in each category to be reviewed by dedicated private duty home care staff at the NAHC.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
The standards of certification were developed by private duty home care industry leaders. Many of these leaders serve on the NAHC Private Duty Home Care Advisory Board, Advocacy Council, and NAHC Board of Directors. In addition, the NAHC Private Duty Home Care Certification Program has been modeled after elements within successful state certification programs in Massachusetts and California developed by The California Association for Health Services at Home and the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts.
BENEFITS OF CERTIFICATION
Through NAHC Private Duty Home Care Certification, agency locations distinguish themselves from their peers and demonstrate that they meet high standards of quality, safety, and credibility, practicing at the top of the industry.
Home Care & Hospice Executive Certification
Why is Credentialing Important?
Quality leadership by the home care or hospice executive is necessary to develop an effective framework to support the two organization’s mission and purpose. Credentialing home care and hospice executives is also important during this time of increased public scrutiny and rapid growth in the number of home care and hospice providers. Certification of home care and hospice executives provides the home care community with a mechanism to establish credentials, acknowledge experience and career involvement, and define a body of knowledge for individuals in leadership positions in home care and hospice organizations.
What Does Certification Mean?
Certification represents achievement of a gold standard of knowledge for the operation of a home care or hospice organization. It signifies that the individual has attained a defined level of education, experience and knowledge. Certified individuals may use the initials CHCE behind their names. CHCE is a trademark of NAHC and Home Care University. Its use is strictly limited to those who successfully complete the application and testing process. Unauthorized users will be prosecuted.
ADVOCACY EFFORTS
NAHC is advocating on behalf of home health care and hospice every day, but nothing has an impact on elected officials like hearing from their own constituents, and that is why it is so important for everyone familiar with home health and hospice to become advocates on behalf of our entire community.
You are the Heartbeat of our industry and can be a catalyst for change ensuring access to quality home-based care and services today and for future generations.
Our voices combined together are powerful enough to command the attention of our elected representatives and influence their decisions. Stand with us, add your voice to ours and countless others, and together we will ensure access to the highest quality health care and services at home for all Americans.
Become an Advocate
The National Association for Home Care and Hospice (NAHC) would like to personally invite you to become an advocate for home care and hospice services.
Every American at some point in their lives will either need access to home-based services or will know someone who does.
