Philanthropic Advising
Individuals, families, foundations, and corporations use The Trust to amplify their giving. Our deep bench of local experts and commitment to meeting donors’ needs enables us to efficiently identify groups that align with donors’ values and objectives.

Individuals & Families
No matter how you want to make an impact, we can help you turn a variety of assets into a force for good. Leverage the unrivalled local expertise of our program team to support your grantmaking through grant recommendations, nonprofit site visits, and more.

By leveraging our knowledge of our local community and conducting research on the issues you care about, we can recommend effective nonprofits whose work aligns with your goals. Then together, we’ll shape a giving plan.

We can work with you and your family members to create short- and long-term grantmaking strategies, including by facilitating planning retreats and helping family members, donors, and advisors reach consensus on a grant strategy.

We can help introduce you to nonprofit leaders, arrange site visits to programs, and facilitate meetings with nonprofit grantees.

The Trust can run a full-service grantmaking program for you. Our staff can issue requests for proposals, identify and select nonprofits, conduct due diligence and arrange site visits, administer the grants and associated paperwork, monitor and evaluate the impact of the work, and create summary reports for your foundation.

Private Foundations
The Trust can amplify and expand your grantmaking without hiring staff. We manage full-service grantmaking programs for a variety of family and private foundations. Our staff can identify nonprofits; vet them and conduct site visits; administer the grants process; and monitor and evaluate the impact of the work for your foundation.

Corporations
Many corporations want to give charitably in a way that elevates their brand and echoes their core values. The Trust helps corporations develop a giving strategy, bolster their presence in local communities, and make grants that drive positive change in their communities.

Government
We have decades of experience conceiving grantmaking programs and driving change for a variety of municipal and state government entities. We help governments issue targeted requests for proposals and develop appropriate due diligence processes. We also design systems to monitor and evaluate the impact of grants.

Scholarships
With the exception of our Armenian Scholarships, applications for our scholarships are available by invitation only. The charitable funds that support these awards have very specific purposes, schools, or communities designated by the generous donors who created them.

Animal Welfare

The Trust funds organizations like Flatbush Cats, which provides more accessible veterinary care, including vital services to stray kittens, and works to reduce the outdoor cat population.

Arts, Culture & Historic Preservation

Our initiatives aim to foster diversity in the arts and broaden accessibility for both artists and audiences. We focus on bolstering the management capabilities of arts organizations that serve communities across the five boroughs. Additionally, we work to nurture talented young artists from historically underrepresented groups and enhance arts education in public schools. Strengthening arts advocacy is another key aspect of our mission. We actively support preservation efforts in low-income communities, communities of color, and boroughs beyond Manhattan, while also restoring historic sites that represent significant yet often overlooked facets of our city's rich history. A critical goal is to increase access to high-quality, sequential arts education within the public school system. Furthermore, we assist arts organizations in improving and expanding their programming that takes place during school hours and within public school facilities, ensuring a more comprehensive and integrated approach to arts education.

National & International Environment Program

The National and International Environment Program’s application process begins with an LOI, which you can submit through the Grantseeker Portal during three-week windows each fall (late September) and winter (late February). These LOIs should be no more than four pages and include a description of the project, proposed activities, and a preliminary budget.

Civic Affairs

To ensure a representative political process and improve the function of government by encouraging voting, holding state and local government accountable, and promoting civic literacy for children and new immigrants.

Community Development

To build and sustain strong communities and create economic opportunities for residents of low-income neighborhoods. We support a mix of citywide and local community development activities as well as policy research and advocacy. We give priority to projects that promote community participation.

Education

To ensure that New York City’s public schools provide all students with the opportunity to reach their full potential and to graduate prepared for college and work. The Trust will support projects that focus on system-wide improvements and reforms that advance equity, narrow the opportunity gap, and create safe and supportive learning environments. In addition, our Early Childhood grants program supports efforts to make high-quality child care for children ages 0-5 more accessible and affordable, including through organizing and advocacy.

Jobs and Workforce Development

To provide more opportunities for New York City job seekers to get trained for work and careers, while helping employers find a ready, willing, and able workforce. Develop employer-driven workforce partnerships that link nonprofits, institutions, and businesses in a particular economic sector (such as health care, technology, and hospitality) or for a particular constituency or community.

Youth Development

To help young, low-income New Yorkers up to the age of 24 overcome obstacles and succeed in life and careers. In addition, through the Girls & Young Women program, we make grants to reduce gender-based disparities and improve conditions for girls, young women, and gender-expansive young people under age 24.
