The American Society for Nutrition (ASN) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to bringing together the world’s top researchers and clinicians to advance our knowledge and application of nutrition science.
ASN is the authoritative voice on nutrition, and publisher of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, The Journal of Nutrition, Advances in Nutrition and Current Developments in Nutrition. Established in 1928, ASN’s 6,500 members in 100 countries work in academia, practice, government and industry. ASN advances excellence in nutrition research and practice through its publications, education, public affairs and membership programs.

We will pursue our mission through three Strategic Priorities: Knowledge, Engagement and Impact.
ASN will lead efforts to provide science-based nutrition information that is essential to advancing knowledge and improving health around the world.
ASN is a leader in keeping nutrition professionals up to date on the latest science and trends, and we embrace new technologies to broaden knowledge in innovative ways. We provide high caliber, engaging educational programs to support continuing education for nutrition professionals and healthcare providers through webinars, meetings, symposia, workshops, online learning, and other professional development activities. We also aim to educate others on nutrition through high-quality, easy-to-understand materials.

ASN will engage the nutrition science community and relevant stakeholders with opportunities to learn, discuss, grow and work together to improve health around the world through nutrition science and practice.
With nearly 7,000 members from more than 100 countries, ASN is instrumental in convening key stakeholders for the purpose of advancing nutrition science and practice. ASN has a long history of partnering and collaborating with not only our members, but with like-minded organizations to promote shared interests and achieve shared goals as well. ASN will expand its reach and connect with new audiences, including traditional media, influencers, and channels to the public to more broadly share science-based nutrition information and establish itself as the authority on nutrition.

ASN is a respected, leading global authority that leverages nutrition data to impact decision makers to establish and enforce sound nutrition policies and regulations. ASN works closely with partner organizations though alliances and coalitions to increase our impact and forges meaningful relationships with Congress and federal agencies. ASN advocates for increased funding for basic, clinical, applied and translational nutrition research and calls upon our members and partners to join our advocacy efforts and strengthen our collective voice.

Membership
The American Society for Nutrition’s (ASN) membership of more than 8,000 scientists and practitioners continues to grow daily.
Founded in 1928, the Society’s membership rolls read like a “Who’s Who” in the field of nutrition research.
Founding members included E.V. McCollum and E.L.R. Stokstad. Society members have received Nobel prizes, appointments to the National Academy of Sciences, and many other prestigious honors. ASN members have broken ground in research and practice, and continue to serve as trailblazers across the world.

Members of ASN receive free online access to The Journal of Nutrition (JN), The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (AJCN), Advances in Nutrition (AN), and Current Developments in Nutrition (CDN). AJCN, published since 1952, is the highest ranked peer-reviewed journal in nutrition and dietetics and publishes basic and clinical studies relevant to human nutrition. JN, published monthly since 1928, carries original, peer-reviewed research in key areas of nutrition. Both journals are widely read and publish studies from over 40 countries. Advances in Nutrition responds to the growing demand for a prestigious, high-profile publication that gathers, synthesizes, and explains the current state of knowledge in all facets of the field.
Members also receive Nutrition Notes, a monthly newsletter which provides news of member activities, meetings, course offerings, grant opportunities, student news and job opportunities; and the ASN Health and Nutrition Policy Newsletter, twice a month including the latest Congressional Action, Funding Opportunities, and more.

Get Ahead In Your Career
All members are eligible to join one or more Research Interest Sections (RIS). The RIS are communities designed to provide a mechanism for topic-specific discussion. Research Interest Sections include Community and Public Health Nutrition, Diet and Cancer, Energy and Macronutrient Metabolism, Experimental Animal Nutrition, Dietary Bioactive Compounds and more.
Additionally, ASN’s three Councils represent the broad spectrum of nutrition research among its members. Members are encouraged to join one or more of the following Scientific Councils: Medical Nutrition, Global Nutrition, and Nutritional Sciences.
In recognition of our members’ professional accomplishments, ASN annually administers over twenty awards. ASN members are also eligible to earn CME credits for professional development.
